The Lighthouse was previously the Church of the Ascension and part of the Anglican Parish ​

​of Heathcote and Mount Pleasant. The church was built in 1937/8 on land donated by a local family. The buildings were enlarged and improved in two phases in 2007 and 2008 when Rev Lawrence Kimberley was the Vicar.​

The property was purchased in 2024 by a local congregant to preserve its long held spiritual significance and empower its new purposes going into the future.
